Carlos Alcaraz admitted that it was special to receive a congratulatory message from Rafael Nadal following his US Open triumph. On Sunday, Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud with a 6-4 2-6 7-6 (1) 6-3 score in the US Open final. Shortly after the final, Nadal tweeted: “Congratulations @carlosalcaraz for your first Grand Slam and for number 1, which is the culmination of your first great season, which I am sure will be many more!

Great effort @CasperRuud98! very proud of you! Tough luck today but amazing tournament and season! Keep going!” Nadal tweeted.

“He also congratulated me. The congratulations of Rafael Nadal is always special,” Alcaraz told El Partizado de COPE.

Alcaraz’s road to the US Open title was not smooth, but he was able to overcome all the challenges and escape with his first Grand Slam title.

In the quarterfinal, Alcaraz was down by two sets to one and Jannik Sinner had a break in the fourth set. However, Alcaraz refused to quit as he saved a match point before completing a five-set victory over Sinner. Alcaraz admitted that he was extremely concerned when Sinner went up by a break in the fourth set.

“The best match was against Jannik Sinner and the best point was the backhand against him. The worst moment was when he broke my serve in the fourth set,” Alcaraz said.

It has been a great season for Alcaraz, who has now won on every level.

Alcaraz now has a Grand Slam, two Masters titles, and is the new top-ranked player in the world. By beating Ruud in the US Open final, Alcaraz ensured that he would be the one who would replace Daniil Medvedev on the ATP rankings list this Monday. Alcaraz’s next big goal will likely be to try to win the ATP Finals.
