Tears of the Kingdom Trailer

An Animal Crossing: New Horizons players show off a detailed recreation of a scene from one of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s trailers.

Somewhere in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community, a player has shared their recreation of a scene from one of the trailers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo’s desert island life sim has proven to be quite a versatile means for players to express themselves, and it’s been great for paying homage to other franchises as well.

Zelda fans were treated to some long-awaited news regarding this past week The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s upcoming sequel. Following the latest Nintendo Direct, where Tears of the Kingdom‘s title and release date were finally announced, excitement for the game has skyrocketed within the community, leading fans to express that excitement in various ways, like pouring over every detail in the newest trailer and, of course, creating fan art. Joining this trend is Reddit user Naydinfar-Crossing, who terraformed their Animal Crossing: New Horizons island to resemble the landscape shown in a shot from Tears of the Kingdom‘s second trailer.

Both Breath of the Wild‘s original terrain and the sequel’s floating landmasses are faithfully recreated here, with elevated terrain rising above boulders that make for convincing clouds, while rows of stone pyramids serve as solid stand-ins for Hyrule’s distant mountains. Capping things off nicely is the Villager dressed in Link’s new one-sleeved toga outfit, seen overlooking the terrain. Although it’s hardly rare to see Zelda– inspired creations in Animal Crossing: New Horizonsthe sheer amount of detail and clever touches in Naydinfar’s make for one of the more impressive examples so far.

The Animal Crossing The Reddit community seems to think so, as the post has received over 8,100 upvotes as of this writing. Plenty of fans were quick to heap praise onto Naydinfar’s work, with some commenting how it almost looks like an actual Zelda game, and others praising how fast they were able to get it made. Then again, Naydinfar’s recreation is based on a scene from the Tears of the Kingdom E3 2021 trailer, so odds are they’ve had months to put it together and were simply waiting for the right time to show it off, like when everyone’s hyped over the game’s official name and release date being announced.

Eight months now remain until The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘s May 2023 launch, and even now much of the game, its story, and its new gameplay features remain shrouded in mystery. No doubt fans will continue to theorize what will happen in the sequel, and with how many creative fans are playing New Horizonseven more Zelda-based creations will no doubt follow.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for Nintendo Switch.
