Brooklyn, NY – New restaurant, new baby, new PETA campaign! Fresh off the jam-packed opening of Slutty Vegan Brooklynentrepreneur Pinky Cole—along with her infant, DJ, and toddler, D Ella—stepped into a lush paradise to encourage other families to reap the benefits of vibrant vegan meals. The new ad, shot by top Atlanta-based photography team Tropicomarks the trio’s first official photoshoot together.
“I want my children to understand that you can live a cruelty-free lifestyle and it can taste good,” says Cole, a PETA honorary board member. “I’m very mindful of the food that I consume, and I’m also mindful of the food I’m gonna give my children. And I’m excited that they get the opportunity to grow up this way.”
Each person who joins Cole and her family in going vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year, slashes their carbon footprint, and reduces their risk of suffering from heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer. Healthy vegan meals—which are free of eggs and cow’s milk, the top two causes of food allergies in infants and children—provide kids with all the nutrients they need to thrive, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Cole and PETA recently teamed up in Atlanta to launch the group’s food justice campaignwhich calls on the government to redirect subsidies for the meat, egg, and dairy industries to incentives for grocers in low-income areas to stock fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy, humane foods.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebookor Instagram.
